#1 of 2 in Kutina

The Baroque Church of Saint Mary of the Snow (Crkva svete Marije Snježne) in Kutina is a dazzling example of late Baroque architecture and the most luxurious sacral monument in the Moslavina region. Built between 1729 and 1769, thanks to the patronage of Count Karlo II Erdödy and his wife, the church stands as a testament to the artistic and spiritual heritage of northwestern Croatia.

Stepping inside, visitors are greeted by a richly decorated interior featuring intricate stucco, vibrant frescoes, and a magnificent wooden altar completed in 1739. The church’s pulpit, dating from around 1761, and wall paintings by artists such as J. Weitenhiller and Joann Joseph Görner, showcase the skill and devotion that went into its creation. Sculptor Joseph Weinacht’s work adds further elegance, with rocaille scrolls and floral motifs illustrating Marian themes, particularly the Legend of Our Lady of the Snow.

The church is not only a place of worship but also a cultural venue, hosting major classical music concerts that take full advantage of its superb acoustics. Ranked as one of Kutina’s top attractions, it draws visitors interested in art, history, and music. While specific opening hours and admission fees are not widely advertised, the church is generally accessible to visitors, especially during concerts and religious services. For those exploring Moslavina, the Church of Saint Mary of the Snow is a must-see for its beauty, history, and serene atmosphere.
