Pag Lace Gallery
UNESCO-listed Pag lace tradition in historic palace
The Pag Lace Gallery, located in the heart of Pag Town on Pag Island, Croatia, is a unique cultural attraction dedicated to the island’s centuries-old tradition of needle-point lace-making. Housed in the beautifully restored Ducal Palace (Kneževa Palača), designed by renowned architect Juraj Dalmatinac, the gallery offers visitors a chance to explore the intricate artistry and history behind Pag lace—a craft recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2009.
Inside the gallery, you’ll find a rich collection of lacework spanning different periods, including household textiles, historical garments, and replicas of traditional designs. Informative panels and old photographs provide context, highlighting the role of lace-making in the local community and its journey from a domestic craft to international acclaim, including its appearance at the 1939 World Exhibition in New York. Visitors can also observe demonstrations of the lace-making process, gaining insight into the skill and patience required to produce these delicate pieces.
The gallery operates from May 1 to October 15, with hours from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m., and extended evening hours from June 20 to September 1 (8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.). Outside these dates, visits are available by appointment. The Pag Lace Gallery is not only a celebration of local heritage but also a living testament to the resilience and creativity of the women who have kept this tradition alive for generations.
