Park Vraniczany
Baroque gardens with lake and historic statues
Park Vraniczany in Oroslavje is a peaceful and historically rich green space that invites visitors to step back into the elegance of Croatia’s aristocratic past. Once the landscaped garden of the grand Oroslavje Gornje Castle, the park draws inspiration from the famed gardens of Versailles, featuring a picturesque lake, a small island, and beautifully preserved baroque statues of Flora and Satyr. These mythological figures add a whimsical touch to the park’s romantic atmosphere.
The castle, founded in the 1730s by Julije Čikulin and later enhanced by the Vranyczany family, was a vibrant social and cultural hub in the 18th and 19th centuries. It famously hosted composer Franz Liszt, who performed here in 1846, adding to the site’s musical legacy. Although the castle itself was lost to a fire in 1949, the park remains a testament to the area’s storied history and refined taste.
Today, Park Vraniczany is open year-round, 24/7, and is free to enter, making it an accessible destination for leisurely walks, picnics, or quiet reflection by the water. The park’s tranquil setting, with its mature trees and scenic views, offers a welcome escape from the everyday and a chance to connect with Oroslavje’s cultural heritage. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking a serene spot, Park Vraniczany is a delightful stop in northwestern Croatia.
