Pedestrian Bridge Over the Drava
Pedestrian bridge spanning the Drava River in Osijek
The Pedestrian Bridge over the Drava River in Osijek is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks and a favorite spot for both locals and visitors. Spanning 210 meters with a height of 35 meters, the bridge connects the two riverbanks and serves as a vital route for pedestrians and cyclists. Originally inaugurated in 1981 as the “Youth Bridge,” it was renamed in 1991 and has since become a symbol of Osijek’s resilience, having been repaired after damage during the Croatian War of Independence and fully renovated in 2007.
Crossing the bridge offers sweeping views of the Drava and the city skyline, making it a popular place for a leisurely stroll or a scenic bike ride. The bridge is especially striking at night when it is illuminated, with its lights reflecting beautifully on the water below—an ideal setting for photography enthusiasts. Visitors often spend an hour or two enjoying the views, taking photos, or simply relaxing by the river.
There is no toll or admission fee to cross the bridge, and it is open 24 hours a day, allowing for flexible visits at any time. While the area is inviting, it’s worth noting that mosquitoes can be prevalent along the waterfront, especially in the warmer months, so bringing repellent is recommended. The Pedestrian Bridge stands as a testament to Osijek’s modern spirit and offers a memorable perspective on the city.
