Prandau-Normann Castle, also known as Valpovo Castle, is a striking historical landmark at the heart of Valpovo in eastern Croatia. Originally built as a military fortress in the early 15th century by Ban Ivan Morović, the castle features a unique blend of Gothic and Baroque architecture, with later additions by Baron Antun Petar Hilleprand von Prandau in the 18th century. The complex includes a medieval tower, a Baroque palace, a Gothic chapel dedicated to the Holy Trinity, and side wings, all set within a picturesque park that serves as a green oasis for the town.

Today, the castle is home to the Museum of Valpovština, where visitors can explore exhibits on the region’s history, culture, and the legacy of the Prandau and Normann von Ehrenfels families. The castle grounds are also the setting for vibrant community events, such as the Summer of Valpovo and the Wine and Cheese Festival, which showcase local traditions and culinary delights.

Guided tours are available by appointment, and the castle is open Mondays and Thursdays from 16:00 to 19:00, and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:00 to 12:00. While some areas are in need of restoration due to wartime damage, the castle remains a well-loved destination, offering a glimpse into Slavonia’s noble past and a lively hub for cultural gatherings in Valpovo.
