Višnjan Observatory, perched in the charming Istrian town of Višnjan, is a must-visit destination for anyone curious about the cosmos. Renowned for its contributions to asteroid discovery and planetary defense, the observatory is led by astronomer Korado Korlević and is recognized as one of the world’s top centers for tracking near-Earth objects. Beyond its scientific achievements, Višnjan Observatory is dedicated to public education, offering engaging programs that bring the wonders of astronomy to visitors of all ages.

The highlight for tourists is the “Astro Night” program, a 1.5-hour experience that includes a guided tour of the facility, hands-on interaction with meteorites, a 40-minute lecture on astronomy, and the chance to observe the moon and stars through amateur telescopes (weather permitting). The main research telescope is reserved for scientific work, but the public programs provide plenty of opportunities for stargazing and learning. Programs are available in English and Croatian, with schedules varying by season—typically starting at 9:00 p.m. in July and 8:00 p.m. in August.

Admission is €15 for adults, €10 for children aged 7–14, and free for children under 6. Proceeds support the observatory’s research and STEM outreach. Visitors usually spend 1–2 hours at the site, and the friendly staff make the experience accessible and memorable. Whether you’re a seasoned astronomer or a curious traveler, Višnjan Observatory offers a unique window into the universe and Croatia’s vibrant scientific community.
