9.1/10
#1 of 3 in Perušić

Grabovača Cave Park, just outside the town of Perušić, is a one-of-a-kind destination in Croatia and the only cave park of its kind in Europe. Situated at 770 meters above sea level and only 2.5 kilometers from Perušić’s center, the park is easily accessible from the Zagreb–Split motorway. It’s a haven for nature lovers, geology enthusiasts, and families seeking a unique adventure.

The park’s highlight is Špilja Samograd (Cave Samograd), renowned for its cathedral-like entrance, impressive 30-meter-high ceilings, and a cool, constant temperature of 8°C. Open to visitors since the 19th century, Samograd is one of Croatia’s earliest tourist caves and features stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Guided tours, included in the €14 adult admission, share the cave’s fascinating history and geology, including stories of 19th-century Austrian officers who once visited.

Beyond Samograd, Grabovača Cave Park protects eight caves and a pit, showcasing diverse calcite formations and geological deposits dating back to the Cretaceous period. The park is rich in biodiversity, offering ecological workshops, educational trails, and activities like paintball and archery—making it especially appealing for families and children.

Visitors also enjoy the fresh cave air, said to have health benefits similar to a salt room, and the scenic banks of the River Lika. With its blend of natural beauty, educational value, and outdoor fun, Grabovača Cave Park offers a memorable experience in Croatia’s Lika region.
