The Rector’s Palace in Dubrovnik is a prominent historical site that offers visitors a glimpse into the city’s rich past. Built in the late 15th century, the palace stands as a striking example of Gothic-Renaissance architecture, with elegant arches and ornate details that reflect the artistic influences of its time. Today, the palace houses the Cultural History Museum, where travelers can explore exhibits that showcase the political, social, and cultural life of Dubrovnik over the centuries.
Inside, visitors find rooms furnished with period furniture and artwork, giving a sense of the daily life and governance of the city’s former rulers. The palace itself was once the seat of the Rector, the elected head of the Republic of Ragusa, and each room tells a part of that story. The museum’s displays include portraits, official documents, and decorative objects, all set within the atmospheric halls and chambers of the historic building.
The Rector’s Palace is open to the public daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM during the summer months (April to October), and from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM in winter (November to March). It is closed on Mondays and major holidays, with limited hours on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The palace is centrally located at Pred Dvorom 3, making it easy to include in a walking tour of Dubrovnik’s Old Town.
