Sljeme Summit and TV Tower

Tallest tower in Croatia with panoramic views

6.3/10
#2 of 4 in Medvednica

Sljeme Summit, perched atop Medvednica mountain just north of Zagreb, is a favorite destination for both locals and visitors seeking panoramic views and a breath of fresh air. The summit rises to 1,033 meters and is crowned by the OIV Tower Sljeme, a striking 169-meter-tall TV and communications tower completed in 1976. As the tallest structure in Croatia, the tower is a defining feature of the Zagreb skyline and a symbol of the city’s connection to its surrounding natural landscape.

The TV Tower features an observation deck at 75 meters, where visitors can enjoy sweeping vistas over Zagreb, the rolling hills of the Zagorje region, and, on clear days, even further afield. Plans for a rotating restaurant and expanded catering venues are underway, aiming to enhance the visitor experience. The summit is also the starting point for several hiking and biking trails, and in winter, it becomes a hub for skiing and snowboarding, with new ski tracks and a modern cable car improving access.

The tower itself has a storied past, having been damaged during the Croatian War of Independence in 1991 and quickly restored. Today, it remains open to the public, offering a unique blend of technological history and natural beauty. Whether you’re hiking, skiing, or simply taking in the view, Sljeme Summit and its TV Tower provide a memorable perspective on Zagreb and central Croatia.
